It’s been a few years now since I first noted the trend towards fewer adjustments in yoga classes. This trend has only intensified, in my experience, so that I find only the most senior teachers are making the rounds, aligning a hip here and deepening a twist there. I think this is a result of an influx of new, less experienced teachers, who are afraid of being blamed for yoga-related injuries. While no one wants a pulled hamstring, or worse, I really miss that hands-on approach, which, when it is good, is oh so very good. What’s a girl got to do to get someone to pull her hips back in downward facing dog around here?
