You may have seen the infomercials on TV late at night for one of the various Beachbody exercise programs, whether it was P90X, Slim in 6, Yoga Booty Ballet or  Turbo Jam. All of these programs promise massive weight loss in as few as six weeks.

Most of the workouts are some variation of an hour-long exercise routine that must be done most days of the week and are sold in sets of multiple videos that must be purchased as an entire set. The videos usually have very simple production values, with a trainer and a couple of other exercisers, in a spare room. Continue reading…

Exercise doesn’t have to be boring. Even basic exercises such as push-ups and jumping-jacks can be made fun if you add a little challenge to them. Give yourself something to accomplish each workout and not only will you improve each time, you’ll have more fun and the time will fly by. Below are various ways to challenge yourself each time you workout.

5-50 Challenge – Do the following 5 exercises: squat, push-up, jumping-jack, mountain climber, and crunch in any order.

If you’re the type that dreads cardio or simply doesn’t like spending a bulk of your time exercising, then this next workout may be one to add to your routine. I really enjoy finding new routines that are simple. Meaning, they only require your own body weight and/or a free weight such as a dumbbell or kettlebell.

I like having a collection of workouts like these to choose from when I find myself in a time crunch. Typically, I like to do my P90X workouts, however, there are some days in which I don’t have the time to devote to an hour or more of exercise.

I was talking with one of my clients after our training sessions about a few situations that made me think I was on hidden camera, the victim of a prank. I was telling him about a couple I used to train, and how their son secretly set up the appointment for me to meet with them. I’m not going into detail  about it in this post, but the story might make for an amusing post in the future.

My client asked if my training relationship lasted long with the couple. The conversation led into how some people quickly stop exercising, not just personal training, the second it seems like an inconvenience. Continue reading…
