One of the most important aspects to losing weight is keeping track of your progress. If you cant tell if youre losing weight, how are you going to know if your current calorie intake is too much or not enough.

The easiest way to track progress is by monitoring your BMI or Body Mass Index. This tells you how much of your total body weight is actually fat. We need to track this because if youre burning off fat but gaining some muscle mass as well (from your workouts), your body weight could remain the same, but your level of body fat could be reducing.

During digestion, proteins consumed in the diet are broken down by the mechanical process of chewing. Once the food is swallowed and reaches the stomach and intestines, enzymes known as proteases go to work on proteins to further reduce them into microscopic particles of protein or peptides, as well as individual amino acids.

Amino acids and small peptides are absorbed into the bloodstream directly through the intestinal walls. Once they enter the general circulation, these tiny bits of protein are typically captured by cells of different tissues and used in the construction of new protein chains.

I used to wonder why so many health gurus and fitness experts who preached drinking plenty of water every day said what they did about the importance of drinking water for weight loss. I mean, other than maybe making you feel a little fuller when you drink it with foods, why would water be an important part to losing excess weight, and managing to keep a healthy weight maintained?

Well, apparently the tasteless, odorless and colorless liquid has a lot to offer the human body when it comes to our natural abilities to maintain a healthy weight and be active and energetic.  Water, for me, is something that I cant live without a lot of.

Ive never been one of those people who have to force myself to drink water because I favor soda and sugary (or alternatively sweetened) drinks.
